Scenario

Imagine that you get a job with an organisation of your choice after your HNCD programme and want to stay in and develop a career out of it. It may be Dream Sales Machine (London) Ltd, another Conference and Events business. The business of Events Management is interested in developing it and you are asked to carry out some activities in the area of business.  You realise there is a significant opportunity here for you that if you do this well.

Activity 1 – Reporting on the Events Sector

Write a report on the Events Sector as a whole and try to cover the following: -

1.Outline of the Events Sector

  • Explain different categories and dimensions of Events with specific examples?

2. Trends in the Events Sector

  • Evaluate some of the features and current trends which influence the Events Sector with specific examples?
  • How are Events adapting to stay innovative in the Events Sector with analysis of its development with some examples?

Activity 2 – Analysing the Management Skills Needed to work in the Events Industry

Prepare a business report and analyse the management skills needed in the Events Industry in order to effectively position both the organisation and yourself. It should deal with: -

1.The Range of Management Roles in the Events Industry

  • Examine different roles within the Events Industry with some of the current job opportunities in Events with examples?

2. The Management Skills needed to meet Stakeholder Needs 

  • If someone wants to work and become successful in the Events Industry, analyse the management skills and personal attributes that are required for it?
  • How management of a successful event leads to having the right management skills with an example?
  • Explain the management skills that are required to meet the needs and expectations of these different stakeholders? Who are the stakeholders in an event? What skills do you consider to be the most important and why?  Make some suggestions for acquiring management skills, justifying it relation to meeting requirements of stakeholder?

Activity 3 – Planning Event Room Setup

Demonstrate that you have developed some practical capabilities in the area of Event room set-up.

Prepare a planning document which contains: -

  1. Design a layout that meets the specific requirements of a client brief for an event in which you correctly set up an event room.
  2. Evaluate the additional services that are available in an Event environment and why it is important to provide them to meet specific client requirements for added value.

If you feel able to develop this plan to a higher level, you can go on to: -

  • How to meet clients’ needs and expectations and analyse the quality of the design and layout that you have produced earlier, and
  • How you have set up the event correctly and/ or exceeded clients’ needs and expectations with justification of your choices for the design and layout.

 Activity 4 – Planning Event Safety

 You want to additionally prove to both to your employers’ that you know about the design, layout and set-up of an event, that you have developed some capability in the related area of managing security and safety for an event and your own satisfaction.

Prepare a planning document in which contains: -

How you would provide a secure and safe venue and explain the appropriate security and safety measures for an Event and include a safe environment for guests and a safe work environment for event staff with specific examples.

 If you feel able to develop this plan to a higher level, you can go on to:

  • Differentiate the security and safety provision at different specific events that you provide as examples; and
  • Make some suggestions for improving the provision of security and safety for those events which you have chosen as examples, justify it in terms of the costs and benefits for the business, staff and guests.
