Change is the process in which a relevant way of conducting operations gets changed with some other operation. It is important and signifiant for manager to understand and evaluate changes in an effective manner. In order to understand and determine policies through which operations are conducted with understanding outcomes of change. If change in due to some external factors, then proper planning is required to deal with it. This report is based on House of Fraser which is one of the leading brand in department stores (Alvesson and Sveningsson, 2015). This association is dealing in UK and Ireland with around 54 stores. In this study, there will discussion about comparing impact of organisational strategy and operations because of change, influence of internal and external drivers on organisational behaviour, barriers to change and its impact on leadership and decision making and at last range of leadership approaches.


P1 Comparison Among Different Organisations and Impact of Change on an Organisation’s Strategy and Operations

With change in external market, it is important that management of association have to alter their working style. If there is change in management of operations, then it will be easy for managers to understand and evaluate operations in effective and relevant manner. House of Fraser is thinking to transform seven stores in mini luxury chains of departmental store. There is requirement of change because of change in demand of consumers and to maintain positive impact in industry. This change affects process, people, structure and process of the association (Bin Taher, Krotov and Silva, 2015).

With House of Fraser, study is done about Debenhams which is operating in retail sector and having franchisee in different countries. They have variety of products as women and men fashion, cosmetics, luggage, garden products, etc. If this organisation also decides to renovate in better and effective manner.

There will change in structure of organisation because with launching mini- chain stores, hierarchical structure is required.

With change in infrastructure and structure of Debenhams, there will use of divisional structure, so it will be easy to distribute complete work among workers.


There is change in marketing, operating and distribution process as well because with change in operations, there is inter relationship among activities of various departments. Marketing is done through hoardings,

Marketing is done through television advertisement and operations are divided among different divisions. This makes changes in operations and concern person are liable for their operations.


People are also satisfied because they have to work with more specific brand name. There is more scope and responsibility on them. There will be training to workers for improving skills for workforce as well.

Employees will have to work in team because there is different divisions and when whole division is working as unit, then they are response for their working operations as well (Doppelt, 2017).


There will improvement in strategies formulation because operations have to planned as big retail store. There is requirement of proper awareness about operations and head to whom they are responsible.

Debenhams plans strategies for departmental growth because of change in operations and performing activities in relevant manner. There will change in monetary benefits to employees so they can get better outcome with it.


Hence it is clear that there is requirement of change in working style with change in operating with change in activities. In context of change in business operations, there will change in business policies and it will be easy to evaluate and distribute policies. There will change in marketing activities as well through which it is easy to communicate with people residing in society.


P2 Ways in Which Internal and External Drivers of Change Have Impact on Leadership, Team and Individual Behaviour

In order to implement change in the organisation, there is requirement of proper planning and analysing resources through which operations can be performed in effective and relevant manner. With change in operations, there will ease in understanding and determining policies in better ways to get positive impact from it. In order to evaluate and determine changes, it will be easy and appropriate and understand changes with change in operations. There are internal as well as external forces which gets affected hence it is essential to read and make clear changes over it. With change, not only workers but also employees are facing problems, managers and leaders have to change their guiding and monitoring approaches (Fairman and Mackenzie, 2015). So it is clear that change affects leadership, team and behaviour of employees as well.

House of Fraser have good brand image in fashion industry as they are operating from last 150 years. They are recognised as reward card and master card.

They does not have proper store outlay where consumer get proper variety of products and services.



House of Fraser can expand through diversification of business. They can expand in developing countries, so their brand image and improves working operations as well. They can sell their products through mobile connectivity for convinces of consumers.

Major threat for House of Fraser is Brexit because this affects free trade operations of organisation. As trends in society is changing frequently, so managers have to change their operations frequently.


As brand image of House of Fraser is maintained and improved, so leaders have to lead workers to communicate properly with consumers and team have to perform activities considering it. Employees have to perform activities so they can maintain good experience in mind of consumers.

When there is change in outlay of House of Fraser, then it will be easy for managers to understand and evaluate designations accordingly. There is requirement of motivation to workers for working in better manner because of change in working operations. Team have to work in business environment, hence it is not easy for managers to understand and evaluate changes properly (Harris, 2012).

In order to improve performance, mangers have to motivate workers to tap rural areas and developing economies, so they have to plan business activities of House of Fraser accordingly. Team is responsible for providing better outcome in terms of growth, so they are responsible for rural and developing countries as well. They have to alter their working style in specific manner. While employee's behaviour will also gets changed because they have to understand the working style of rural people and they have to analyse it and change their working style.

There is threat of Brexit for House of Fraser because this is the change in political policies, but leaders have to motivate workers to come with new and innovative approaches, employees behaviour might gets affected because they can not work in organisation concerning to international market. There will change in operations of team as well because they can not work with set benchmarks and come with innovative products for organisational growth and development and competing with other local brands.

PEST Analysis

With the help of PEST analysis, study about external market factors is possible. With change in external market, there is change in employee behaviour, team and leadership as well.

  • Political Factor- In this factor, there is discussion about change in government policies and regulations which has to be planned. With change in political policies, there will impact on operations of team because they have to abide it properly. Employees of House of Fraser also have to taker acre of changes in political rules and regulations. Leader at House of Fraser have to motivate works to give best services which as per government norms and regulations (Harris, 2012).
  • Economical Factor- Economic factor considers economic changes which are taking place in society such as tax rate, inflation rate, etc. When there is change in bank rate, then leader have to select best way to select sources of income and team mates of House of Fraser have to work within specified budget. Due to change in economic factors, there are possibilities that workers of House of Fraser are not able to get proper remunerations or regular source of income (Lawrence, 2015).
  • Social Factor- Social factor talks about changes in demand of consumers. When there is change in demand of consumers then leaders have to change working strategies and they implement new techniques to satisfy them. Team have to analyse market regularly and determine what changes they can make in their operations. Employees behaviour might gets affected but change in operations might affects their concentration on working.
  • Technological Factor- In this there is discussion about technological changes such as machinery change, up- gradations of software, etc. and it affects working style of workers. Employee requires proper training in lieu of it. Leaders have to motivate workers to accept changes because it improves their operational efficiency. Team have to evaluate which technological changes have to be accepted and benefited to them (Holmes, Clement and Albright, 2013).

P3 Measures That Can Be Taken to Minimise Negative Impacts of Change

To reduce the impact of change on House of Fraser company can apply PDCA model which is series of four steps to introduce change effectively. Company is planning to change its present stores in mini luxury chains of departmental stores to grow its operations. The steps to minimise the risk and negative impact of change on House of Fraser are as follows:


This is first step in PDCA model which comprises of activities to collect and research information about main cause of issue. In case of House of Fraser there are issues related to losses, less growth and to change according to modern environment is forcing company to introduce changes in organisational structure. This stage is characterised in providing clear understanding about the issues and the reasons behind it so that solutions can be find out and to minimise the negative impacts.


After getting clear understanding about the issue which is bringing changes, next phase is to find solutions for problem. House of Fraser will introduce organisational changes by introducing mini luxury chains of departmental stores so that issues can be solved. This is innovative solution to redesign processes, change old and rigid structure of organisation and find scope for growth and development. There is need that these solutions are analyse properly so that risk associated with it and negative impact can be minimised (Hrebiniak, 2013).


This stage perform comparison of desired and actuals outcomes while implementing changes in organisation. This allows business to take corrective actions in case of deviations and be proactive in solving further issues. House of Fraser need to open one or two mini luxury departmental stores and analyse the performance. If these changes are able to address the present issues of business them more stores can be open. In case of deviations research will be done so that appropriate solutions can be identified.


The last step is to write down solution in formal format so that it can be use for future references and study. This is will also helps in informing share holders and management about the implementation of change and risk associated with it. This will also bring out issues that House of Fraser and its operations are facing. This step also ensure that plans are going as per planning, controlling actions are also taken to minimise the negative impact of change on stakeholders and organisation (Kotter, 2012).
